KIMMEL CENTER -- DIRECTOR, INDIVIDUAL GIFTS
Department: Development
Reports to: Managing Director, Development
Status: Exempt
Supervision to: Manager, Special Events
Summary:
The Director, Individual Gifts is responsible for comprehensive efforts to secure gifts from individuals and family foundations for annual operations, capital, and special events. S/he will play a significant role in the major gifts team, to include the Kimmel Center’s President and CEO; Managing Director, Development; and senior staff as appropriate. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects to be solicited both personally and in partnership with select trustees and senior staff.
Essential Functions:
- Manage a portfolio of 100-125 donors and prospects with the capacity to donate four+-figure gifts.
- In consultation with the CEO and Managing Director, design and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy for annual giving, major and planned giving, and capital/endowment support.
- The Director, Individual Giving is responsible for managing the implementation, fulfillment and day-to-day administration of the Kimmel Center Membership Programs in coordination with the Director, Development Services.
- Supervise and direct professional staff.
- Oversee cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events designed for individual donors.
- Recommend development policies and ensure compliance with philanthropic standards.
- Develop detailed strategies and programs for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospective donors.
- In coordination with the Marketing Department, create solicitation and marketing materials.
Education/Experience:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced individual gifts manager whose track record in cultivating qualified prospects and closing major and principal gifts is well documented and presented. Additional experience with event design and management, including previous experience with high-level volunteers in the creation and execution of events, is a plus. A minimum of 10 years administrative and supervisory experience in a performing arts organization or non-profit institution of comparable complexity and scale is preferred. Master's degree in arts or business administration, marketing, communications or other related field required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communications with some proposal writing experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and with varied personalities across organizations, as well as in team settings.
- Interest in all aspects of performing arts and a dedication to promoting the Kimmel Center’s fund raising priorities through developing excellent working relationships with senior staff; colleagues in Programming, Education, Marketing and Facilities Operations; high-level volunteers and the Development Department.
- Knowledge of and network with area individual philanthropic and community leaders.
- Customer-service orientation.
- Must be available to work nights/weekends for performances and events.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office desired.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Routine for office environment. This position is required to attend meetings/events during evening and weekend hours.
